How To Wear A Monochromatic Outfit
How do fashion trends get started? Is there a magic ball that tells designers what to create? Or is it the Miranda Priestlys, aka Anna Wintours, of the world that decides? The short answer is, none of the above. Trends are set by market research and analyzing runway shows - fashion forecasting focuses on other industries outside of fashion such as automobiles, home décor, food and beverage, and so much more. Fashion forecasters research and rely on information from the internet - celebrity looks, colors, designer collections, etc.
So how do fashion trends get started...Fashion week across the world plays an integral role in trends, but it’s the consumers that keep the trends going and one trend that I can’t get enough of was all over the Spring/Summer runway shows - monochromatic sets! There’s just something so chic and sleek about a monochromatic look, and when you pull it off all eyes will be on you!
There’s a lot of trends you’re going to see on the streets this Summer, from quilted jackets, to fringe, electric greens, and keep it simple little black dresses. Whether you follow trends or not, I’m sure you’ll find at least one of the many trends sitting in your closet, so why not have a little fun with your wardrobe.
The tricks to pull off a monochromatic look are simple:
Tip 1: Color - Find the color that best compliments your skin and hair tone.
Warm skin tones should stick to honey, olive, coral, and cream colors.
Cool skin tones go nicely with blue, lavender, rose, and gray
Neutral skin tones should gravitate towards jade, red, white, and blue.
White and black colors work with all skin tones.
Tip 2: High/Low - Balance your look by keeping it refined on the top and casual on the bottom (or vice versa) or baggy on the top and fitted on the bottom ( or vice versa).
Tip 3: Shades - Mix and match different shades of the same color.
Tip 4: Have fun - don’t take your look too serious. The more fun you have with it, the more confident you will be.
Tip 5: Be the VIBE - If you’re wearing a monochromatic look, you better walk into every room like you own the place.
Happy styling, Loves!
