Embracing Age and Confidence: A Conversation on Growth and Self-Care
I had a conversation the other day with a twenty-something woman about life and how she struggles with confidence and mental health. Listening to her, I was reminded of my own journey and the struggles I faced in my twenties. I shared with her that as she gets older, she will find herself gaining more confidence. This is one of the reasons I embrace and enjoy my birthday every year.
With 40 right around the corner for me, I feel a profound sense of clarity and purpose that I lacked in my earlier years. I've learned to give less focus and attention to things that no longer serve me and to the people who drain my energy. Instead, I’ve become more health-conscious, prioritizing my sleep and overall wellbeing. I'm intentional with who I spend my time with, ensuring that my interactions are positive and enriching.
I don’t think you have to wait until you’re almost 40 to change your habits, but it can be challenging when you’re in your twenties. This period is often filled with uncertainty, and it’s easy to feel like the “only one” navigating these struggles (we’ll dig into what that means next week). However, just know that as women, each year brings more beauty and confidence. Your self-care priorities will naturally start to shift as you grow.
Remember, it’s a journey. Be patient with yourself and embrace each year as an opportunity to become more in tune with your true self. Your confidence will grow, your priorities will align with your well-being, and you’ll find joy in the simple act of taking care of yourself.
